During law school at Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis, Mr. Roberts was one of the original founders of "The Dictum" newspaper which is still published today. Upon graduation in 1973, he was immediately hired as a trial attorney for the Federal Power Commission in Washington, D.C. He later moved back to Indianapolis to start his private practice and became a Public Defender for Marion County.
He is one of the few lawyers in the State that is death penalty certified. In 1977, he was invited to Dearborn, Michigan by Ford Motor Company. That same year, he was requested to try a case for Ford Motor Company. He obtained a defense verdict and has remained on Ford's Outside Counsel list ever since.
Mr. Roberts has appeared in the Indiana Appellate Courts for Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation. When Tandem computers needed counsel in a neighboring jurisdiction, Mr. Roberts was hired to go to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Firm has represented General Motors Corporation in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and prevailed.
Mr. Roberts has lectured to various corporate HR Departments relative to employment matters. He has written more than 100 briefs in his career and tried over 102 cases before juries in Federal and State Courts. Mr. Roberts is a former Treasurer of the Marion County Democratic Party and has served as legal counsel to the Democratic members of Indianapolis, Marion County and the City County Council. Mr. Roberts is a co-founder of the National Bar Association's Commercial Law Section and former Chairman. He is also a co-founding member of the National Minority Legal Group (NMLG).
He is the author of "Never Too Small". He is a lifetime member of the National Bar Association and NAACP. He is admitted to practice in the Indiana State Courts, United States District Court - Indiana, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, United States Tax Court and United States Supreme Court. Mr. Roberts has been married to his wife Mary for more than forty-one (41) years and together have three (3) adult children.
Mr. Roberts is a lifetime member of the National Bar Association and NAACP. He is also co-founding member of the National Minority Legal Group (NMLG).
